Pure Physio were proud to host an evening seminar focused on Being Prepared for Your Event. With six weeks until Great Ocean Road Marathon, we took the opportunity to bring together a range of health practitioners and running professionals with a passion for running to share their wisdom about preparation.
The evening was a great success. It was about providing specific areas of “food for thought” when preparing for the event. Kate and Andrew were joined by Ben Moore (Podiatrist), Melissa Vandewater (Run Technique Coach), Sandra Prosenica (Running Nutritionist), Tim Crosbie (coach and head of Crosbie Crew) and Trent Harlow from Mizuno to bring the area of footwear into the mix.
The most important theme that continued to recur was the need for really good deep core muscle and gluteal muscle function for single leg stability, coupled with lower leg muscle strength for power and propulsion. This carried across from us Physio’s, to podiatry, to running technique, to coaching principles.
We believe it is invaluable to gain a firm understanding, build specific body awareness, have specific muscle strength, but ultimately practice whilst running was brought home as a key component of preparation.
So what’s your event? Have you thought about the requirements? Do you know your shortfalls? We are always happy to share our knowledge and provide treatment and guidance to see runners cross the finish line both pain free and performing well!
